Rethinking Language Learning: How My Method Helps You Learn Faster and More Efficiently

My childhood, a taste of Italy

As a child, thanks to my parents, I had the opportunity to learn two languages: Luxembourgish and Italian. I still remember my first experiences in Italy, where every moment was a little happiness.

An image always comes to mind: my sister and I, under the hot sun, on the beach, walking together to buy ice cream.

Anyone who has ever been to Italy understands that. I really wanted to try these flavors that we couldn’t find in Luxembourg.

“Una solo limona e una fragola,” pronouncing each word with pride – I still remember it with a big smile. What a joy to buy this ice cream in Italian!

But in fact it wasn’t just that delicious ice cream; the real fun was that we managed to orde in the local language, that unique moment in which we felt like little adults.

It was a sense of achievement, a magical little moment where my parents were so proud of us.

Learn languages in Luxembourg

Like all children in Luxembourg, I learned German very early, then French at school. Later, in high school, I had the opportunity to learn English.

Luxembourg is a country where languages mix, where we often speak three or four languages without thinking about it.

Nowadays it is common to meet people who speak up to six languages and at a very good level. Learning and speaking languages is part of our daily life and culture.

But it’s not easy for everyone.

As I grew up, I saw how  much Multilinguism is beneficial, but I also realized that learning a language, even if essential, requires a lot of patience and work.

My experience in language courses

As I grew up I wanted to improve my Italian and I found myself in language classes. I met passionate teachers who lived their work, but quickly realized that there was a lot of time dedicated to repetitive exercises. For example, gap exercises, which are of course useful for making progress, but take a lot of time. Let’s imagine twice 10 minutes per lesson, multiplied by all the lessons I took… That’s a lot of time spent on something that could be done differently.

In addition, these language courses for adults were common and lacked a practical lack of vocabulary learning

We learned sentence structures, but little grammar and what I really missed was practicing vocabulary. Learning by heart a few sentences to use every day is by far not enough. So I started thinking about how to make learning more fluid, more fun and more effective, without wasting time on exercises that were necessary but could be outside of the main lesson.

The teaching experience and the birth of my method

When I started teaching, especially in kindergarten and elementary school, I quickly realized that in large groups we can deepen certain aspects such as reading, grammar or vocabulary.

However, it is often missing spontaneous interaction who really makes the difference. For some kids this learning can be effective, especially those speaking the language at home. But for others the depth of concepts is limited.

During this time I studied psychology with a particular interest in child’s development, cognition and everything that has to do with learning.

On the one hand, I had my own experience as a language student and my knowledge and expertise from my psychology studies.

On the other side my experience as a kindergarten and primary school teacher. So it made sense to combine all of that.

My method was created on this basis of hands on learning. I understood that it was not enough to represent a language theoretically with boring grammar tables and vocabulary lists for memorization.

This is not the best way to maintain learner interest and effectiveness. For this reason, I have developed a method in which the learner becomes a learner Actor of his learning. I offer practical exercises, interactive and lots of repetition at home, allowing the student to focus on activities that will truly strengthen their memory and understanding.

In my courses I do not want my students to pay their teacher to watch how they check boxes on a paper.

In my opinion, this time can be used much better Review, practice and repeat active.

In addition, it allows every student to repeat at his own pace, an essential element for progress in learning a language.

The optimal combination lies in the alternation of guided video lessons with your teacher and exercises that you can do completely independently at home.
